I said "oh my god" when I found and read your blog. At the same time I am excited, I am also scared and blown away, that you and I have apparently dug enough that we have "a little knowledge is a dangerous thing" and know what is going on. We know there is always a cause and an affect and we have figured out that our issues are related to bartonella. I do not believe I have Lyme. I too believe I have a bartonella infection. I had a Fry Smear done that showed rare bartonella like organisms attached to erythocytes.
My disease goes back to 2005 when after dental surgery I became very ill. Pandora's box was opened and I had high CMV titers, High Epstein Bar titers and of course symptoms of possible lyme/bartonella/babesia type organisms. I went to Dr. Lerner and he wanted me to go on Valtrex.I declined. He did not diagnose me with Lyme. I was later clinically diagnosed with Lyme. My heart tests including a MUGA stress test all came back normal but yet I had heart issues of palps, tachcardia, non-significant T wave changes etc. I knew in my heart that my main problem was not EBV or CMV but something else. Something was suppressing my immune system. Finally after 5 1/2 years off antibiotics for supposed Lyme I re-visted in my mind the bite I received from a stray very feral cat back in 2002. After that I was never the same. I believe my problem is a rare form or more than one form of BART and the cat bite that my gut instincts told me was "not good" (I was worried about rabies which didn't happen) caused a chronic illness. My quest continues and appears to run very similar to your quest. I believe without a doubt we know...and someday everyone will know that bartonella is NOT necessarily something people can clear entirley but may lay dormant or subacute only to come out later with a vengance. I have yet to have specific BART treatment but have used herbs to beat back my symptoms. I always said that once I knew for sure what I have then I will take the treatment. I refused to continue on antibiotics for Lyme (I was on ~ 8 months on typical Lyme antibiotics) when I just felt I did not have it. I had heard the horror stories of people that were on antibiotics for years and years only for the symptoms to come back. When I go on antibiotics long term next time it will be when I know for sure what it is I have. I think that thing is BART such as bartonella vinsonii subsp. berkhoffii. I would love to talk to you further.Anonymousnoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-38372827.post-70222601906092602672011-08-14T20:43:16.879-07:002011-08-14T20:43:16.879-07:00Hi Jim,

Do you have a Lyme-literate doctor? If not (or even if so) be sure to post on Lymenet as people there can help connect you to the right resources. I personally believe people can get well with the right, aggressive treatment with enough patience. Don't lose your fight or your faith in a good outcome.Peggyhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/01076379368835293822noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-38372827.post-89222376112771726172011-07-07T20:27:55.616-07:002011-07-07T20:27:55.616-07:00Dear Peggy,

I am in bad shape, even with treatment, and do not know what to do to get better. How do you cure this disease when it has become severe?Jim Plylernoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-38372827.post-29792016587734866482010-05-19T18:46:59.351-07:002010-05-19T18:46:59.351-07:00Interesting comments. He notes in one article that most hospitalized animals have the constant attention of both doctors and veterinary residents, whereas human patients are generally observed by nurses with doctors doing brief, duck-in appearances. Because of this, it probably shouldn't surprise me that my nurses have been far more observant of local trends in Lyme than my doctors.Peggyhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/01076379368835293822noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-38372827.post-83092261286675515902010-05-15T15:02:59.486-07:002010-05-15T15:02:59.486-07:00About dogs as models for human disease - 2 points....About dogs as models for human disease - 2 points.
1. It seems as if the LLMD and veterinary community are constantly playing catch-up with each other in knowledge/ignorance about Lyme. Sometimes one group is shutting its eyes to common sense, anecdotal, and research evidence, then the other. The bizarre thing is that scientists use dogs as lab animals to study Lyme in people, yet vets are not familiar with these studies at the same time as vet school study Lyme and MDs don't learn of the the significance of *those* studies.

2. Veterinary oncologists are very familiar with how good dogs are as medical models for people. Human bone marrow transplants only became possible after they were successfully done on dogs. Previous attempts on other animals, including apes such as chimpanzees, had all failed. It turns out that dogs, because of the number of breeds and mixed breeds, have much more genetic diversity than most other species. Overcoming the problem of immune system rejection of bone marrow transplants only became possible once the problem was solved in dogs, whose genetic diversity is similar to humans. Yet, practical (clinical) use of bone marrow transplants in dogs with cancer is in its infancy.

It's amazing how little doctors treating our co-existing species pay attention to the diseases in *the other species* that affect us both -- even in the case of zoonotic diseases (such as Lyme and bart), that are passed between us.Anonymousnoreply@blogger.com
